The 2008 ENnie Award nominations have been announced and Evil Hat Productions' holiday themed Spirit of the Century supplement Spirit of the Season has been nominated for Best Supplement. Congratulations to writers Fred Hicks, Chad Underkoffler, and Daniel M. Perez!

The ENnie Awards (Annual Gen Con EN World RPG Awards) are an annual fan-based celebration of excellence in tabletop roleplaying gaming. The awards give recognition to game publishers, designers, writers, and artists and are a "peoples' choice" award since the final winners are voted upon by the gaming community itself.

Voting at the ENnie Awards website will run from July 21 to August 3 and is open to the public, so cast your vote!

In support of the nomination, Evil Hat Productions is offering the ENnies Extended Free Preview PDF of Spirit of the Season as a free download from Drive Thru RPG. The Spirit of the Season ENnies Extended Free Preview PDF is a trimmed-down preview version of the supplement and does not contain the extra spellcasting rules, villains, or Chanukah allies. It also comes with a black and white cover instead of the full-color version.

The full, updated print and PDF editions of Spirit of the Season are available from Indie Press Revolution. For those who downloaded the Free Holiday Gift Edition or ENnies Extended Free Preview PDF, this upgraded edition contains over 20 more pages of material, including Mystic Spellcraft rules, Empathy-driven minion stunts for heroes, and 11 additional pieces of artwork as well as a full-color cover.

Appeared at Heroes Convention, Charlotte Convention Center, Charlotte, NC. Thanks to all the convention goers and friends that made this my best Heroes Con yet. Special thanks to Wayne and Keith for all of the support. I contributed a print of The Hole: Female to the Heroes Con art auction. I hope it helped in support of the Heroes Con cause. I touched base with friend and writer of the zombie thriller webcomic Devolution, Matt Yocum. We talked at length about the business in general, Devolution, and a possible future collaboration based on one of his earlier novels. I also had a chance to sit and talk with Ritch Hall of Hallboy Comics. Ritch is a talented, professional, and driven writer/creator of projects like The Quest of Sief, Atom Family, and Oya. We also discussed a possible collaboration on one of his fantasy projects. Check back for updates as these projects progress.

June 14-July 11, 2008- A framed print of The Hole: Female is on view and for sale at the 43rd Annual Fence Show at The Arts Center of the Capital Region, Main Gallery, Troy, NY.

May 24, 2008-

Posted artwork from Bonita & Clyde issue #1. Bonita & Clyde is a comic book mini-series that takes a gritty look at the lives of characters whose gang connections put them in grave danger. It is a story that I describe as Romeo and Juliet meets MS-13. Release dates and options are still under discussion, so check back for updates.

I will be showing some of the artwork from the Bonita & Clyde series at upcoming appearances. Feedback on the project, and especially the artwork, has been promising so far. Questions and comments regarding Bonita & Clyde or any other project are always welcome. Please send correspondences via the contact page.

May 16-17, 2008- Appeared at The 7th Annual East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention (ECBACC), Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. Thanks to Yumy Odom and Maurice Waters for another great show. I got a sneak peak at The Hole: Consumer Culture graphic novel by John Jennings and Damian Duffy. No details yet, but I may be teaming up with these two talented creators for a project due out in 2009. Other ECBACC highlights include catching up with Hallboy Comics, Paris Cullins, Jan and Charlie from Trimekka Studios, Alex Simmons, the Strictly Underground crew, Millennia War creator Ashley A. Woods, and the rest of the ECBACC family. Thanks and best of luck to neighbors Spirit, Steven Van Patten, and Perfect World Comics.

The gallery book is available from Lulu.com in print and PDF formats. The book can be purchased here. It is also available as a free PDF download here.

John Jennings says, "this was a cross promotional project... it was just a way of celebrating our two year journey into the world of THE HOLE and a way to possibly promote artists that we admire and respect at the same time."

May 2, 2008-

Evil Hat Productions' holiday themed Spirit of the Century supplement Spirit of the Season has been reviewed by Matthew Pook of the online gaming source Pyramid. I provided all of the artwork for this supplement and he has this to say about it:

"Spirit of the Season is a slim digest-sized book, decently written with nice artwork... The cover is particularly good, aping the style of the cover for Spirit of the Century (which depicted the heroes fighting the gorilla pilot of a biplane as a zeppelin looms overhead) with Nick Saint rocketing to the rescue of a Christmas parade being attacked by Jacques Frost riding a woolly Mammoth!"

He has this to say about the supplement as a whole:

"I like Spirit of the Season. It is fun, it is full of good cheer, and it does full justice to both Christmas and Chanukah without being cheap or tacky in its treatment of the various elements that make up both holidays, and with so many days until Christmas, I just found my first Christmas present."

If you have a Pyramid subscription you can read the complete review here.

The updated print and PDF editions of Spirit of the Season are available from Indie Press Revolution. For those who downloaded the Free Holiday Gift Edition PDF, this upgraded edition contains over 20 pages of new material, including Mystic Spellcraft rules, Empathy-driven minion stunts for heroes, and 11 new pieces of artwork as well as a full-color cover.

April 27, 2008- Appeared at the Albany Comic Con 1, Holiday Inn, Wolf Road, Albany, NY. Hopefully this is the first of many. Thanks to John Belskis of Excellent Adventures, Balston Spa, NY, for putting on a great show and making everyone welcome. Thanks also to Vincent DePorter for being a great neighbor and for the art tool tips. Special thanks go to all of the convention goers who made this show such a success.

April 18-20, 2008- Walked the floor at New York Comic-Con, Jacob Javits Center, New York, NY. I had the pleasure of helping comics writer and creator of Black Jack, Alex Simmons, conduct a class for children and adults. Alex coached the participants in creating a character and I translated those ideas into an actual drawing of the character. In the end Disaster Man was born!

April 17, 2008-

The word is out! The new comic book project I am working on with writer Buddy Scalera is called Bonita & Clyde. It is a story that I describe as Romeo and Juliet meets MS-13. It is a gritty look at the lives of characters whose gang connections put them in grave danger.

In anticipation of the New York Comic Con, Buddy recently had an interview with the Bergen Record. In the interview he describes his struggle to make it back into the comics world and his projects, including Bonita & Clyde. You can also see a preview of the Bonita & Clyde #1 cover art. To read the interview click here.

Stay tuned! Previews of the Bonita & Clyde project are coming soon!

April 15, 2008-

Finished two pictures for The Hole Gallery Book. The promotional pin-up book commemorates the April 2008 release of The Hole: Consumer Culture, a graphic novel by Damian Duffy and John Jennings. The Hole: Consumer Culture is described as a science fiction horror story about the buying and selling of race in America, the simultaneous worship and degradation of African Americans in popular culture, and the bloody terror of boundaries being torn down. It is being published by Chicago-based publisher Front 40 Press and distributed by the University of Chicago Press.

The pin-up book is comprised of interpretations of the characters from the graphic novel by various artists and will be available from Lulu.com soon. Check back for details.

See the two images I contributed to The Hole Gallery Book.

January 10, 2008-

Preliminary work has begun on the Swashbucklers of the 7 Skies RPG (S7S) with Evil Hat Productions and Atomic Sock Monkey Press.

"Skyships ply the 7 Skies, soaring from Cloud-Island to Cloud-Island for conquest, espionage, trade, and piracy. Kingdoms clash, cultures collide, and secrets abound. Heroes and villains roam Above the Blue, seeking action, intrigue, adventure, and style. Will you be one of them?"
